The Trans and Gender Diverse Menopause Project

Oestrogen cessation, menopause, perimenopause and oestrogen changes can be a lot — confusing, frustrating, empowering, messy, liberating, or all the above.

For trans and gender diverse people, these experiences can also intersect with gender-affirming care, dysphoria, misgendering, stigma and the challenge of finding health information that fits.

That’s why we created the Trans and Gender Diverse Menopause Project: a friendly, practical resource hub shaped by lived experience, community knowledge and trans-informed health expertise.

Here you’ll find factsheets, lived experience stories, and a dedicated video for GPs and health workers.

Developed by Women’s Health Tasmania with trans and gender diverse community members and sector partners, these resources aim to cut through misinformation, build confidence, support better conversations, and help create safer, more respectful healthcare across Tasmania.

This work was funded by the Department of Premier and Cabinet, through the LGBTIQA+ Grants Program.

If you’re looking for menopause information and support – check out our Menopause workshops and resources.

Speaking from lived experience

Hear from trans and gender diverse Tasmanians about what oestrogen cessation, menopause and menopause symptoms have meant for them.

Resources for Health Professionals

Primary Care Quick Guide outlines key knowledge in this space, and has practical guides for having trauma informed, affirming conversations with patients.

Hear from Dr Miranda about how to work in this space. A quick primer in the basics for understanding and doing this work.

Resources for trans and gender diverse people

These guides give you some information that is specific to trans and gender diverse people.

They are designed for people who are using testosterone or oestrogen as gender affirming care.

They aim to explain how oestrogen cessation, menopause and changes in oestrogen can show up in your body and mind, and what you can do to support your health and wellbeing.

They also include a checklist for talking to your GP.

Speaking of Health - podcast

Unmask the change with Merri

What happens when neurodiversity, menopause, and gender identity collide? Merri’s story is all about that and the great ‘unmasking’ it led to. Would Merri go back? Absolutely not.
