Rosie the Riveter Stories

LISA REID

I joined the board of the Hobart Women’s Health Centre at a time of major change. The Centre had been running successfully for 20 years and was evolving its governance and organisational structures and approaches.  I was one of the new Board members recruited to help implement the changes.

Extensive planning sessions were held with outside moderators and additional Executive Positions were introduced for the board. As a result I became Chair, the first Chair of the Board. It took 3 weeks to decide what my title would be Chairperson, Leader, moderator etc!

It was a really exciting and challenging time to be at Women’s Health Tasmania (WHT). With the retirement of long time Coordinator, Joan Barry one of our first tasks was to employ an Executive Officer. Glynis Flower was the successful applicant and looking back on her time at Women’s Health Tasmania, we can say that the Board did a very good job with that task.

Glynis was perfect for the role!

Strategic Planning was also high on the list. I learned so much from the other Directors and the Staff about women’s health in Tasmania and about working in an organisation that runs on feminist principles. Everyone was happy to share what they knew and to work together to solve problems.

I had the privilege of being part of the 21st Anniversary celebrations and left the Board soon after. Now 30 years has passed. I was very excited when Jo Flanagan asked me to be part of the We Can Do It poster series.

I love seeing the growth and progress that has been made at WHT, and I love that it is still essentially the same warm and welcoming organisation.

Congratulations on 30 Years. “We Can Do It”.
